The migration crisis is perhaps the most challenging test since the fall of the Iron Curtain for the European Union, its commitment to solidarity and its values. In October, the EIB already made a EUR 5 million contribution to the Migrant and Refugee Fund (MRF) established by the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB).
For its part, the Institute’s Social Committee has decided to donate EUR 82 000 to four international charities through their Luxembourg offices: SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde, Médecins Sans Frontières, Croix Rouge and Médecins du Monde. These organisations were considered trustworthy and selected because of their reputation and the merits of their concrete work carried out with refugees.
The money donated comes from the proceeds of the sale of the Bank’s old mobile phones (BlackBerries and iPhones) organised by the Institute as well as from the small grants initiative budget.
Should you wish to join the efforts of the EIB Institute’s Social Committee, attached are the IBAN numbers of the four selected charities.
