The EIB Group is uniquely positioned to strengthen the impact investing sector in Europe according to a study, Impact investing in Europe, carried out by Sciences Po master’s students as part of a capstone project with the Institute’s Social Programme and the European Investment Fund (EIF).
The growing universe of European impact entrepreneurs favour impact investors, but getting access to them is complex. There is no standard definition of impact, there has been a proliferation in the number of platforms and databases, and “impact washing” (like “green washing” for climate investment) is becoming a concern.
The students make three proposals to improve this situation: i) support a more comprehensive taxonomy for impact investing; ii) improve existing investor databases; and iii) promote an EIB definition to rate impact investors.
