The notion of business sustainability changed forever when new forms of modern slavery within the supply chains of well-known multinationals became public. Nowadays, to embed human rights due diligence throughout a company’s value chain is considered a fundamental requirement by consumers (social license to operate). Furthermore, since the United Nations’ unanimous approval of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in 2011, companies (of every size and sector) have a responsibility to promote, protect and remedy human rights.

In this webinar organised by the EIB Institute on 16 December, Francisco Granja de Almeida and Inês Villar from the international law firm Vieira de Almeida, will explore the synergies between human rights and sustainability, engage on fundamental concepts from a legal perspective and leverage a discussion about their impact and relevance for the future.
