Seventeen participants from 13 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe graduated from the 2023 edition of the Certificate in Law and Regulation of Inclusive Finance organised by the University of Luxembourg`s Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance and Appui au Développement Autonome (ADA) between 16 and 26 January 2023 and supported by the EIB Institute and the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The graduating ceremony of the seventh edition of the Certificate -the first fully back on-site since the outbreak of COVID-19- took place at the EIB in Luxembourg under the presidency of Shiva Dustdar, Director of the EIB Institute. All participants expressed their happiness with the experience and proactive interaction with the professors.

The Certificate offers classes on regulatory supervision, law and ethics, investment vehicles and banking law, enabling an exchange between scholars, regulators and financial intermediaries, facilitating academic and non-academic cooperation. EIB Group staff teach courses on inclusive finance, microfinance at the EIB, banking law and impact measurement.

The EIB’s involvement in inclusive finance goes back decades, spearheaded in particular by Jaqueline Noel, a former EIB associate Director and the first woman to be named Head of Division at the EIB. The scholarships provided by the Fondation Jaqueline Noel covered the travel cost for four female participants.

Since the first edition in 2017, close to 160 professionals from central banks, regulators, the private sector or academia from 40 countries have benefited from the programme.
