In 2019, we helped the victims of tropical cyclone IDAI that swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Nine NGOs active in the region received EUR 261 695 to provide emergency aid, including health care and psychological support.

We inaugurated the three playgrounds we financed in the Marathonas Municipality following the devastating fires in Eastern Attica (Greece).

The Institute supported two philanthropic events with a high participation of EIB Group staff in Luxembourg: “Relais pour la Vie”, a team race where teams raise funds to support cancer research, and Spicy 3, a solidarity triathlon to collect donations to support various actions in Burkina Faso.

We hosted a presentation from the European Leukodystrophies Association (ELA), which has been fighting for 25 years to raise public awareness of rare, progressive, metabolic, genetic diseases, a presentation from the Order of Malta, the world’s oldest humanitarian organisation, and a presentation from Funds for Good.

The Institute also manages the donation of IT equipment no longer used by the EIB Group to non-profit organisations, public schools/universities or local community centres registered in an EU country. In 2019, 91 schools and non-profit organisations in 15 countries benefited from the donation of 1 221 desktops, laptops, printers and other IT equipment. In addition, the EIB donated more than 1 000 pieces of used IT equipment to African schools under a partnership with Close the Gap.
