The University of Luxembourg/Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Werner Report which in October 1970 paved the way for the economic and monetary union of Europe, with a series of conferences held from 6 to 9 October at the University.
The Keynote event is the conference on 6 October about “The Economic And Monetary Union By Stages”, organised by the Bridge Forum and chaired by EIB President Werner Hoyer with Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Paschal Donohoe, President of the Eurogroup and Chairperson of the ESM Board of Governors, Klaus Regling, Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism. Other conferences will include discussions with Luxembourg’s Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna, Stéphane Pallage, Rector of the University of Luxembourg and Renaud Dehousse, President of the European University Institute, Florence. On Thursday 8 October, Birgit Olsen, EIB archives coordinator, will speak at a roundtable on “Archives as Spaces of Memory – (Re)Constructing the History of the Economic and Monetary Union”.
