The Institute and the Union for the Mediterranean intend to develop new academic ties and research programs, according to a new clause added to their Memorandum of understanding and signed in February 2022 between the EIB and UfM.

This includes structuring a curriculum on the EIB in the Southern Mediterranean and supporting the EIBI in conceiving long-life learning programmes for mid-career managers from public and private institutions such as central banks and other relevant financial institutions from the Southern Mediterranean.

In addition, both parties will coordinate to promote a fellowship programme to researchers from the Southern Mediterranean, including time at the EIB headquarters, in Luxembourg for research of common interest, and to implement STAREBEI (STAges de REcherche BEI/EIB) research internships.

Headquartered in Barcelona, the Union for the Mediterranean is an intergovernmental organization of 42 member states from Europe and the Mediterranean Basin: the 27 EU member states and 15 Mediterranean partner countries from North Africa, Western Asia and Southern Europe.
