Luís Baptista is a senior economist at the EIB Institute, with specific responsibilities for the Social activities. He joined the European Investment Bank in 1998 where he was loan officer in charge of operations in Portugal for seven years, appraising priority investment projects financed by the Bank in the country, whereby he acquired wide experience notably in project finance and securitisation transactions. In addition, he accumulated nine years of extensive experience with EIB activities in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries, including three years as Deputy Head of the Portfolio Management and Policy Division in the ACP Department. He therefore has substantial development experience in the ACP region and a strong understanding of public and private development issues as a result of his broad involvement with the multilateral and bilateral development architecture.
Prior to joining the EIB, Mr Baptista worked from 1988 until 1998 as a financial analyst for a portuguese bank, specialising in credit risk and problem loans/work-outs. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of a company in the paper sector in Portugal. He graduated in economics from the Portuguese Catholic University and completed a post graduate degree in Bank Management at the Bank Training Institute (Portugal).
