October Days

The October Days, organised every year until 2021 at the EIB by the Institute, the University of Luxembourg and other partners, contributed to the global debate on the UN Sustainable Development Goals by enhancing dialogue among stakeholders.

    • October Days 2021: “Rethinking cities: from smart to human”

“The focus needs to shift from economic growth to achieving a better quality of life for all,” said Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Under-Secretary-General of the UN and Executive Director of UN Habitat, during her keynote speech at the October Days for Sustainable Development (ODSD) 2021 conference on “Rethinking cities, from smart to human”.

    • October Days 2020: “Turning the tide is still possible”

“We are fast approaching many of the earth’s limits” but “turning the tide is still possible”, said the speakers of the October Days for Sustainable Development 2020 dedicated to the topic “Biodiversity loss and pandemic emergency: reverse the trend and build a sustainable future”.

    • October Days 2019: Make fashion, food and tourism sustainable!

Changes are needed if fashion, food and tourism are to become more sustainable industries, said panellists of the October Days for Sustainable Development 2019 organised at the EIB by the Institute, the University of Luxembourg and CARITAS Luxembourg.

    • October Days 2018: Financing the SDGs

Spending money is not enough to implement the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), said the panellists of the October Days for Sustainable Development 2018 dedicated to “Financing the SDGs”. Relevant governance structures, an appropriate legal environment and political will are also often lacking.

    • October Days 2017: SDGs and business

How can companies and businesses contribute to implementing Agenda 2030? Conversely, can the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) create value for enterprises? This was the focus of the October Days for Sustainable Development 2017 dedicated to “SDGs and Business”, organised by the Institute and the University of Luxembourg with the support of other partners.
