As part of the EIB Group’s response to the COVID-19 crisis, the EIB Institute is coordinating a donation of € 1 million, the largest ever made by the EIB Group.
The donation will be allocated half to NGOs fighting the effects of the pandemic and half to well-known EU research institutes active in COVID-19 related research. It will support the initiatives of UNICEF, International Red Cross, Fondation de France, SAVE THE CHILDREN and SOS Villages d’Enfants Monde to alleviate the consequences of the pandemic for the most fragile segments of the population.
The other half of the donation will help well-known, not for profit EU research institutes in their research and development for vaccine/treatment against COVID-19: Institut Pasteur, National Institute for Infectious Diseases, Lazzaro Spallanzani, Foundation for Polish Science and Karolinska Institute.
So far, COVID-19 has struck more than 1 million people worldwide causing over 51 000 deaths.
Within the EIB Group, the Institute is responsible for grants following humanitarian catastrophes.
