A majority of Europeans (61%) thinks the Green transition will make their lives better, according to the third wave of results of the annual EIB climate Survey.

It will bring greater convenience in their everyday lives and have a positive impact on their food and their health despite a loss of purchasing power foreseen by 62% of European respondents.

Europeans (56%) believe the green transition will be a source of economic growth and that it will create more jobs than it will eliminate. But 25% fear they could lose their job because it will become incompatible with the need to mitigate climate change — this figure increases to 44% among people aged 20-29.

More young people (50%) also expect to move to another region because of climate issues compared to one-third of the EU population (29%).

The EIB conducted the fourth edition of the EIB Climate Survey in 2021. The survey reveals the intersection between the climate crisis and the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. The findings are particularly relevant at a time when climate and a green recovery are top priorities in the EU’s agenda.

Conducted in partnership with market research firm BVA, the survey aims to inform the broader debate on citizens’ attitudes and expectations in terms of climate action in the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and China.
